More About Us

Our school is a voluntary controlled junior school for children aged

7 - 11 years old.  The number of pupils on the school roll is currently 186 (as of January 2007)

It was founded in 1854 asTwerton Parochial School and until the last war was situated about half a mile away on the Lower Bristol Road.  The school was bombed in 1942 and therefore moved into the present buildings in 1951.

The main building has eight classrooms, one of which has been refurbished into a computer suite and non-fiction library, a large hall, kitchen and dining room.  There are excellent facilities for games, sports and physical education.  The school takes part in a wide variety of cultural and sporting fixtures/events/tournaments in Bath.

The children are currently divided into eight classes.  There is an additional teaching base that supports statemented children with emotional and behavioural difficulties in their re-integration into mainstream education.  The whole school is ability set for both Literacy and Numeracy every day and all members of staff have at least one curriculum area for which they are responsible.

In addition to eight mainstream classroom teachers, we have a Head of Unit teacher supported by two highly skilled Learning Assistants.  This is in addition to a complement of six Learning Support Assistants who support statemented children within mainstream classes as well as targeted groups of low achievers.

There are also a considerable number of children of high ability and we are very involved in courses for the more able child.

The childrens standards of achievement in all aspects of learning and behaviour have improved considerably in the last few years.  This is reflected in the positive reputation that the school now enjoys within the local community and beyond.

The school actively follows a policy of positive praise and reward for good behaviour.  This approach is effectively raising childrens self-esteem and encouraging independance.  All pupils, teaching, non-teaching staff and Governors endeavour to put the aims of the school into practice day by day and to be seen to be 'working together for the best'.
